Summertime! It may be hot outside but the SC State Museum in Columbia is the coolest place for summer camps this year! Whether your child is fascinated by bugs and snakes, knows more than you do about computers, doodles and draws on every piece of paper in the house, or really wants to dig to China, there’s a camp with his or her name on it this summer—maybe more than one!

WEEK 1: June 10 – 14
Exploring the Natural World
Time: 9 a.m. – Noon

Fossils, insects, dinosaurs, rocks and minerals, sea creatures, cavemen— Natural history curator Dave Cicimurri leads campers on an exploration of the museum’s collection of natural specimens as well as the “natural world” right outside the museum’s walls. Campers also learn about starting their own specimen collections and participate in creative hands-on activities.

LEGO ® Mindstorm
Time: 9 a.m. – Noon

Using LEGO® Robotics, campers design, program, and control fully functional robotic models in a series of real-life activities. Campers also test and modify robot behaviors using software as well as collect and analyze data from their robots' sensors.
