     Summertime! It may be hot outside but the SC State Museum in Columbia is the coolest place for summer camps this year!  Whether your child is fascinated by bugs and snakes, knows more than you do about computers, doodles and draws on every piece of paper in the house, or really wants to dig to China, there’s a camp with his or her name on it this summer—maybe more than one!

          Museum curators and new partners have joined together to offer nine weeks of camps jam-packed with the joy of discovery. Check our listing below and register now!

WEEK 1:  June 10 – 14


Natural History Summer Camp

Exploring the Natural World

Time: 9 a.m. – Noon          
Members: $115 | Public $130

Fossils, insects, dinosaurs, rocks and minerals, sea creatures, cavemen— Natural history curator Dave Cicimurri leads campers on an exploration of the museum’s collection of natural specimens as well as the “natural world” right outside the museum’s walls. Engineering Summer Camp

LEGO ® Mindstorm

Time: 9 a.m. – Noon

Presented by Engineering for Kids

Using LEGO® Robotics, campers design, program, and control fully functional robotic models in a series of real-life activities. Campers also test and modify robot behaviors using software as well as collect and analyze data from their robots' sensors. South Carolina
Art

Experience the art and visual culture of our state from 1590 through today! Curator Paul Matheny will guide students as they create their own works of art inspired by the State Museum’s collection of artwork and through interaction with visiting artists. African-American Heritage in South Carolina

Time: 9 a.m. – Noon
